Criolla Sella Chiles usually score 20,000-30,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU). They are comparable to Chipotle Morita and Chipotle Meco chiles as far as heat goes, though they don't share the smoky quality that these peppers have, but rather have a fruity citrus flavour.Native to Bolivia, these little plants churn out loads of little, bright yellow peppers that are perfect for drying. I always end up with many jars of lovely dried peppers that keep for years, and also make awesome gifts.Like my other specialty peppers, these have been grown in containers, and seem to be more tolerant of the cold then other pepper plants, most likely due to their much smaller leaves. If you have to pick one new pepper to try, I’d suggest this one. It’s hardy, produces loads of peppers, and it’s pretty.
