Green Acorn Squash are the squash most folks know. Small and easy to grow, they are dark green in colour with bright orange or yellow patches, and they weigh typically 1-2 pounds. 
 
Squash need lots of sun and warm soil, so don’t plant too early. They can go directly into the ground, or you can start them inside and transplant. I’ve grown them in containers, but I find they do better in the ground.
